Est. 1817 City of Pawnee

Department 02

Animal Control

Managing Pawnee's complicated relationship with its wildlife, livestock, and the occasional escaped exotic pet. Response times vary by raccoon.

CURRENT ADVISORY: Raccoon activity remains elevated near Founders' Park. Do not feed, approach, or attempt to negotiate with local wildlife.

What We Do

Coexisting with the wildlife of Pawnee

Animal Control handles everything from routine loose-dog calls to full-scale raccoon incidents. We ask for your patience, and your properly secured trash cans.

Ongoing

Raccoon Management

Pawnee's raccoon population is, by most estimates, thriving. We monitor sightings and respond to reports, though "respond" is doing some heavy lifting there.

Routine

Livestock & Loose Pets

Reports of loose dogs, escaped livestock, and the rare llama sighting are handled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Community

Pet Adoption Support

We coordinate with local shelters to help place strays in good homes, no questions asked about your ability to care for a full-grown horse.

Public Advisory

Secure Your Trash Cans

Raccoon-related complaints have risen sharply this quarter. Bungee cords are available at the front desk for a small suggested donation.

Livestock Division

Loose Llama Reported Near Route 9

If sighted, do not approach. Contact the department directly. This is the third such report this year and we have questions.

Lost & Found Pets Board

Check our bulletin weekly for lost pet notices. We are, regrettably, unable to keep up with the raccoon-to-actual-pet ratio.
