Animal Control is asking residents near Founders’ Park to secure trash cans and outdoor pet food after a sharp increase in raccoon sightings over the past month.
“They’re bold, they’re organized, and frankly, they’re better at opening latches than some of our staff,” said a department representative. Officials stressed that raccoons should never be fed, approached, or offered snacks under any circumstances, no matter how convincing their expressions may be.
Bungee cords and secure-lid guidance are available at the Animal Control front desk. Residents who spot aggressive or daytime raccoon activity, which can indicate illness, are asked to report it directly rather than attempting to handle the situation themselves.
