Department 04
Permits, zoning variances, and the steady stream of small-business proposals that come through this office, several of which originate from the same Parks Department desk.
What We Do
Planning & Zoning reviews land use, business permits, and construction proposals for the city of Pawnee, including a memorable multi-year review of a certain government-owned pit.
Permits
New business applications reviewed on a rolling basis. Popular categories this year include entertainment consulting and premium loungewear.
Land Use
Requests to rezone public land for private or mixed use are reviewed by committee, then argued about at length during public forums.
Construction
Reviews and approves construction projects citywide. Average approval time has improved significantly since the Pit finally closed out.

Business Licensing
Storefront and pop-up permits accepted year-round. Please allow six to eight weeks, or six to eight months during Harvest Festival season.
Zoning Board
A public hearing on the proposed mini-golf course expansion will be held at the next city council meeting. Attendance strongly encouraged.
Records Office
Decades of paper permits have finally been scanned. Please do not ask how long it took, or how many are still missing.
